Rare Books & Manuscripts
Antiquarian leather-bound volumes, periodical runs and devotional pocket editions — a quiet, steadily appreciating niche for the antiquarian collector.
Rare book collectors assess binding, completeness and provenance. Complete leather-bound runs of 19th-century periodicals such as Peterson’s Magazine, gold-edged clasp-bound devotional pocket editions, and illuminated manuscripts are increasingly scarce. Verify the binding is original, that all volumes in a set are present and matching, and note any foxing, rebacking or ex-library marks. First editions and signed copies carry the strongest premium; complete period runs are genuinely rare.
